If you’re a 22 year old comedy nerd, you’ve probably never heard of Katie Goodman. But that’s because she ain’t for you. Katie has been cleaning up in theater gigs and the biggest comedy clubs with her sketch/music troupe Broad Comedy. She’s also a frequent contributor to O Magazine (that’s Oprah Winfrey’s mag dudes) and she does national speaking gigs to help uptight corporate types learn to improvise and pull the collective stick out of their ass.
Katie and Broad Comedy do some very funny stuff around what it’s like to be a woman, particularly a woman in her 40′s. “Soccer Mom Ho” and “These Are The Things I Can’t Fucking Remember” top the list on that theme.
Katie’s doing her solo show now in a variety of venues and festivals. Here she opens up the theme a little more and gets into social issues with songs like “I Didn’t Fuck It Up” and “Glen Beck Is Bat Shit Crazy”. As you can see, she’s not afraid of any 4-letter words either.
I like to see someone carving out their own niche like this. She’s the 40 year old mom doing what a lot of other 40 year old moms would like to be doing. When you can get an audience to identify like that, you’re golden.
